Canon of Repentance — Odes IV–IX

O my soul, thou hast made thyself as the lost sheep; hasten to return to thy Saviour and Shepherd, crying: O Compassionate One, spare Thy creature. Grant me compunction and grant me tears, O Saviour, and cleanse me from all my sins.I have sinned against Thee, O Saviour; as the publican I cry to Thee: Be merciful, O God. Cleanse me, for no man hath sinned among men as I have sinned against Thee. Neither have I kept Thy commandments. But, O Compassionate Lord, spare me and save me.Thou didst create me for Thy glory, O Lord. When I fall into sin restore me, that I may glorify Thee, my God, for all eternity.O Saviour, spare me. Thou art compassionate. Draw me from the mire, lest I sink into it; deliver me from mine enemies and save me.(Each Ode follows the pattern: eirmos, troparia with refrain "Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me," concluding with a Theotokion.)
