Prayer 1, of St. Basil the Great

O Master Lord Jesus Christ our God, source of life and immortality, Creator of all visible and invisible creation, the co-eternal and co-unoriginate Son of the everlasting Father, in Thy great goodness Thou didst clothe Thyself in flesh in the last days and wast crucified for us ungrateful and heedless ones, and with Thine own Blood didst renew our corrupted nature. O Immortal King, receive the repentance of me a sinner, incline Thine ear to me and hear my words. I have sinned, O Lord, against heaven and before Thee, and am not worthy to look upon the height of Thy glory. For I have provoked Thy goodness by transgressing Thy commandments and have not obeyed Thy precepts. But Thou, O Lord, being long-suffering, patient, and abundantly merciful, hast not abandoned me to perish in my sins, but dost await my complete conversion. Therefore I also, though unworthy of the heavenly and earthly, present to Thee the contrition of my heart and the conversion of my will; and I approach Thy ineffable and life-giving Mysteries. Have mercy on me, O Almighty, and heal me; for neither are my many transgressions greater than Thy great mercy, nor does my need exceed Thy lovingkindness. Save me for Thy name’s sake, O Lord, and make me worthy to partake without condemnation of Thy most pure Mysteries, for the remission of sins and unto life eternal. Amen.
